Of English Extraction focuses on the chrome grille of a 1959 Austin Healey, which is seen entered in a British car show, beautifully restored and remodeled, vying for a prize. Reflected in the chrome are the clouds and blue sky, the green grass, parts of other cars and spectators at the event - loosely rendered. The grille itself is slanted sideways to increase the emphasis on the abstract composition. The painting is a great example of the fusion of realism and abstraction - the reflected and the reflector.
